Ladysmith Primary School, Exeter
This space was a challenge! Although this library occupies a large space, it acts as a walk-through to other areas, so it still needed to accommodate this function. The brief was a woodland theme, so we focused on vibrant greens and natural wood finishes. To maximise use of the space, we split the area into 3 sections - non fiction, fiction, and chapter books. An unused store cupboard was transformed into a more private reading space.
The teaching staff and pupils are thrilled with the results, demonstrating how thoughtful design can create a dynamic, welcoming, and highly functional school library. By incorporating vibrant colours, durable materials, and child-friendly elements, the revamped library now serves as a hub of inspiration and exploration. Children are encouraged to immerse themselves in books, ignite their curiosity, and cultivate a lifelong love of reading. From inviting reading nooks to collaborative spaces for group activities, every aspect ensures it meets the diverse needs of the young learners.
